008. One Night in Railay
What to do for one night on your way back from Koh Lanta to Bangkok? Pop into Railay Beach of course!
We'd stopped by Railay on one of the many tours from Krabi Town, and I'd been non-plussed about the whole thing. Keen eyes might’ve spotted a dismissive photo of Railay in earlier blogs. I think the Railay stop came late in the day, there were a thousand tourists filing around and Instagramming (think full lighting and tripod set ups), and I just had blacked out for the whole occasion I think. Kes, on the other hand, was insistent we visit again, and maybe spend the night.
Reader, he was 100% right.
As it turns out, the hoards leave Railay at about 4pm and don't return until around 9am the next morning - conveniently, the exact times we had to spend there. We had the best off-beach swim of the whole trip, saw monitor lizards, parrots, and monkeys galore, lazed about on the beach, and stayed in a great bungalow which we actually photographed every last inch of, in case we ever need to build our own tiny home - it was that good. It did have a resident rooster living underneath the bungalow, rendering alarm clocks pointless (6.30am on the dot - a punctual bird), but that added to the charm.
We also witnessed a whole wedding photoshoot and Kes, always on the clock, ended up becoming someone else's Insta photographer complete with splashing about in the waves, hair flicks, and all the angles you could hope for.
We were gutted to be leaving but had to make a move - next stop Bangkok.
